To study gene control mechanisms in Xenopus embryos, we analyzed polyamines, cloned SAMDC (S-adenosylmethionine decarboxylase), a key enzyme of polyamine metabolism, and microinjected its mRNA into Xenopus fertilized eggs. The microinjection induced a large i…

Several studies have reported a relation between increased pro-inflammatory mediators such as TNF-α and apoptosis in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD). It is known that lipopoly-saccharide (LPS) treatment induces neuroinflammation an…

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are tumor initiating cells within the tumor mass; that play a critical role in cancer pathogenesis. CSCs regulate cancer cell survival, metastatic potential, resistance to conventional radio-chemotherapy, disease relapse and poor prog…

Apoptosis is involved in aging and age-related disease, with respect to aging, apoptosis acting in a celltype-specific manner. The rate of apoptosis is elevated in-most types of aging cell populations and organs. In stable cells and certain continuously divid…

Transition from mononuclear villous cytotrophoblast into multinuclear syncytiotrophoblast in the human placenta is accompanied by changes in apoptosis-related proteins and an apparent increased resistance to induced apoptosis. We investigated the specific nat…

We previously showed that the increase in nitric oxide (NO) levels and NO synthase (NOS) expression correlate with the progression of reactive astrocytosis and demyelination in the brains of 6-month-old taiep rats. Increased levels of NO can result in high co…

Treatment with etoposide (VP-16) has been associated with translocation of the mixed lineage leukaemia ( MLL ) gene seen in treatment-related acute myeloid leukaemia (t-AML). Among the different partner genes, AF 9 is the most common partner gene of MLL. AF9…

Inhibitions or blockages of ligand-receptor interactions on cancer cell surfaces by exogenous competetors or antibodies often result in apoptosis or “programmed cell death.” The underlying mechanisms of action for cellular apoptosis depend greatly on the mole…

Amphibians and more particularly X. laevis are models often used for studying apoptosis during embryonic development. Using several methods, searchers determined the localization of programmed cell deaths (PCD). Several experimental methods also have been use…
