During the maintained quiescence between solar cycle 23 and 24, two unusually intense (K-indices = 7) global geomagnetic disturbances separated by 6 days occurred. They were followed by a protracted increase of between 150 and 200 nT in the vertical component…

Hydrological and marine seismic data, collected in the Gulf of Cadiz (respectively in July 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002, and in April 2000 and 2001) are analysed to reveal the various structures of Mediterranean Water (MW). Both the hydrological and seismic data…

Any change in technical or environmental conditions of observations may result in bias from the precise values of observed climatic variables. The common name of these biases is inhomogeneity (IH). IHs usually appear in a form of sudden shift or gradual trend…

Forced geostrophic turbulence on the surface of a rotating sphere (so called β-plane turbulence) is simulated trough the use of the <i>β-SQG</i>+1 numerical model. Domain occupied by the fluid has a channel geometry with 512 by 256 grid points, per…

The run-out of high speed granular masses or avalanches along mountain streams, till their arrest, is analytically modeled. The power balance of a sliding granular mass along two planar sliding surfaces is written by taking into account the mass volume, the s…

The primary objective of this study is to investigate the porosity-depth trends of shales and sands and how they affect lithologies. Compaction curves from well logs of five wells were determined using interval transit time from sonic logs. The depth of inves…

Wireline signatures were used to identify hydrocarbon bearing sands and evaluate Petrophysical parameters for hydrocarbon pore volume determination. Well to seismic tie revealed that these reservoirs tied direct hydrocarbon indicators –bright and dim spots –o…

Changes in land use and land cover (LULC) in the drainage basin of Lake Malawi over the period 1982-2005 were estimated from satellite imagery, and possible relationships were evaluated among the four major land-cover classes: cropland, forest, water, and sav…
