Objective : This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of three sildenafil citrate generics and to explore the role of dopaminergic D 2 receptors in the central regulation of erectile function. Methods : Adult male Wistar rats received different doses of three generics (Boom, Tre-Bon, Luvmax). Measured parameters included number, duration, and latency of erections, locomotion, and suspension. The most effective product was studied in association with bromocriptine (D 2 agonist) and sulpiride (D 2 antagonist). Two-way ANOVA analyses were performed. Results : All three generics increased the number and duration of erections, with Boom being the most effective. Low doses (5 and 25 mg) were superior to the 50 mg dose. Bromocriptine potentiated the effects of sildenafil, whereas sulpiride inhibited them. Conclusion: The efficacy of sildenafil generics is variable and dose-dependent. D 2 receptors play a key role in the central regulation of erection.
