Over the last forty years in the field of peripheral arterial disease, there has been a plethora of research into cell-based therapies for tissue repair, regenera tion and angiogenesis, progressing from pro tein-based therapies to gene therapies to stem cell…

Tissue engineering based on stem cells has gained interest recently as attempts are made to engineer scaffold environments mimicking the stem cell niche, which contains a reservoir of multipotent stem cells that can maintain normal tissue or restore unhealthy…

The knee is a multi-component organ system comprised of several tissues which function coordinately to provide mobility. Injury to any one component compromises the integrity of the system and leads to adaptation of the other components. Over time, such event…

The characterization and isolation of various stem cell populations, from embryonic to tissue-derived stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), have led to a rapid growth in the field of stem cell research and its potentially clinical application…

Detailed knowledge of interfacial region between interacting proteins is not only helpful in annotating function for proteins, but also very important for structure-based drug design and disease treatment. However, this is one of the most difficult tasks and…

Cardiorenal syndrome is a severe and potentially lethal disease in which heart and kidney failures coexist. The classic treatment with loop diuretics is ineffective due to the resistance of the kidney to those drugs, which requires the use of other therapies,…

The effect of laminin on hard tissue formation using rat bone marrow cells was assessed. Rat bone marrow cells were obtained from femora of 6-week-old male Fischer 344 rats. In this in vivo examination, porous cylindrical hydroxyapatite scaffolds with a hollo…

The hydrodynamics of aneurysm blood flow is thought to be a critical factor in the evolution and potential rupture of blood vessel walls. The ability to predict which aneurysms may grow or rupture has eluded researchers and practicing clinicians. On the other…
