Open Journal of Soil Science (OJSS) is an openly accessible journal published monthly. The goal of this journal is to provide a platform for scientists and academicians all over the world to promote, share, and discuss various new issues and developments in different areas of soil science. All manuscripts must be prep…

Very little is known about the type and mix of desert plant species and their management to optimize carbon sequestration in desert ecosystems. Overgrazing is one important practice that affects soil carbon cycling and therefore sequestration. Improving soil…
Everhard Christiaan Conradie, Valdon R. Smith
On both west and east sides of sub-Antarctic Marion Island (47 o S, 38 o E), total Na and exchangeable Na, Mg and K concentrations in the soil decline with increasing distance inland and altitude, related to a decrease in the intensity of seaspray deposition.…

Studies of the living organic matter humification process are essential for understanding the carbon biogeochemical cycle. The aim of this study is to analyze relations between the properties of peat, peat humic acids and peat humification degree. The analysi…
Seth I. Manuwa, Omolola C. Olaiya
Laboratory investigations were conducted to study strength characteristics of silt loam soil of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, under uni-axial compression tests. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of applied pressure and moisture cont…
Takele M. Dinka, Robert J. Lascano
Crack orientations are an important soil physical property that affects water flow, particularly in vertic soils. However, the spatial and temporal variability of crack orientations across different land uses and gilgai features is not well-documented and add…
Takele M. Dinka, Robert J. Lascano
The need to study the shrink-swell and crack properties of vertic soils has long been recognized given their dynamics in time and space, which modifies the physical properties that impact water and air movement in the soil, flow of water into the subsoil and…

Adopting a better tillage system not only improves the soil health and crop productivity but also improves the environment. A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of tillage and irrigation management on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) produc…
Wolinska Agnieszka, Stepniewska Zofia, Bulas Aleksandra, Banach Artur
The aim of the study was the statistical evaluation of the impact of water potential (pF), oxygen availability (ODR) and the way of land use on microbial biomass (MB) and soil DNA content. Soil was extracted from the surface (0 - 20 cm) and subsurface (20 - 4…

Phosphorous (P) is a major contributor to eutrophication of surface waters, yet a complete understanding of the P cycle remains elusive. Inositol hexa-kis phosphate (IHP) is the primary form of organic (P O ) in the environment and has been implicated as an i…
Mejbah Uddin, Abul Kashem, Khan Towhid Osman
A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of cow manure, city waste, chicken manure and TSP on the growth of corn ( Zea mays ) and phytoavailability of phosphorous (P) in soil. An air dried sandy loam soil was mixed with different amendments at…
