Abstract
Adjustment disorder refers to a short-term and mild state of distress and emotional disturbance that occurs in response to significant life changes or environmental shifts. It is often accompanied by certain behavioral changes but not by psychotic symptoms. Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is a psychotherapy approach centered on emotions. It posits that all emotions are neutral and categorizes them into adaptive emotions and maladaptive emotions, with the latter being a trigger for psychological problems. EFT helps individuals identify, accept, and transform maladaptive emotions, thereby achieving the therapeutic goal of resolving their psychological distress. Research results indicate that EFT has a certain therapeutic effect in intervening in adolescent adjustment disorder. This paper systematically reviews studies on the effect of EFT in intervening in adolescent adjustment disorder and discusses future research directions.
