Masayuki Otaki
Extending the effective demand theory developed by Otaki [1,2], we construct a demand-driven endogenous growth theory with a rigorous microeconomic foundation. An accelerator-principle investment function is derived by the intertemporal maximization behavior…
John F. McDonald
The paper shows that the use of an equity participation loan has no effect on the value of the firm, and that taxation of the borrowing firm and lender reduces firm value. The paper includes the assumption that firms borrow at an interest rate that is greater…

We study price competition in heterogeneous markets where price decisions are delegated to agents. Principals implement a revenue sharing scheme to which agents react by commonly charging a sales price. The results of our model exemplify the importance of bot…

We study the AK growth model with external habit formation. We show that there exists a unique solution path expressed in terms of the Gauss hypergeometric function. Using the closed-form solution, we also show that the optimal path converges to a balanced gr…
Juin-jen Chang, Hsiao-wen Hung
In a simple one-sector endogenous growth model of imperfect competition, we show that the competitiveness-growth relationship can be mixed, crucially depending on the degree of the increasing returns to specialization. This ambiguity not only reconciles the t…
Yasumi Abe, Satoshi P. Watanabe
This study is motivated by a theoretical deficiency in the research on internal resource allocation and functional differentiation of higher education institutions in relation with their prestige maximizing behaviors. Our finding, despite its purely theoretic…

This paper looks at various definitions of momentum then investigates a particular definition of momentum via a statistical model where the asset price is assumed to follow a log Ornstein–Uhlenbeck process. Momentum is a term that is widely used to describe p…

Imperfect information regarding the true needs of recipients is a common problem for governmental or not-for-profit service providers. This can lead to potentially dangerous under-provision or wasteful over-provision of services. We provide a method for optim…
Tetsuya Saito
In this short note, I examine the rationality of money-search equilibrium in a basic second-generation money search model, which is a perfectly divisible goods and indivisible money model. I then show that only an inflationary economy can generate a socially…
Galeazzo Impicciatore, Francesco Ruscitti
It is known that a correspondence from a topological space to a Euclidean space, with open and convex upper sections, has an open graph if and only if it is lower hemicontinuous. We refer to this result as the open graph theorem. We provide a new and simple p…
