Atmospheric and Climate Sciences (ACS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published quarterly. The journal is dedicated to publishing original research articles across all the fields of applied atmospheric and/or climate science. The journal welcomes contributions in, but not limited to, the following areas:
Clement O. Akoshile, Sarafadeen Shehu-Aladodo, Muawiya Sani, Jibril O. Otu, Benjamin T. Ajibola
Aerosol is one of the important geophysical parameters that determine the earth’s radiation budget, energy balance and hydrological cycle. The “Deep Blue” Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectro-radiometer (MODIS) Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) retrieval algorithm w…
Kamoru A. Lawal, Dáithí A. Stone
This study investigates the co-variability between measures of the spreads in the ensembles of seasonal climate simulations and large scale climate indices. Spreads in the ensembles of seasonal simulations (of rainfall and near surface air temperature) from a…
Ihab Jomaa, Marie Therese Abi Saab, Sleiman Skaf, Nisrine El Haj, Randa Massaad
Rain gages data represents limited spatial coverage, especially in rugged terrains like Lebanon. Other precipitation data sources are the developing satellite and radar technologies. In this study, Tropical Rain Measurement Mission (TRMM) monthly rainfall dat…
Jinqing Liu, Ziliang Li, Mengxiang Xu
The predictions of heavy rainfall in an accurate and timely fashion are some of the most important challenges in disastrous weather forecast when a typhoon passes over land. Numerical simulations using the advanced weather research and forecasting (WRF) model…
Xingmin Guan, Xiang Zong
In this paper, we present the severe convective weather nowcasting system in Heilongjiang Meteorological Bureau and its preliminary performance evaluation, which has been in operational use since 2018. We believe that a good workflow design and intelligently…
Stanley I. Echebima, Benjamin C. Ndukwu, Andrew A. Obafemi
This study analyzed three decades of the temperature and rainfall data of Owerri, South Eastern Nigeria and in the process carried out a comparative analysis of using three different methods namely the mean, median and jackknife to derive the base data upon w…
Oye Ideki, Vincent E. Weli
Assessment of drought vulnerability and occurrence zones in North Central Nigeria was carried out in this study using standardized Precipitation Index (SPI). The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) 12 months’ time scale was computed from long-term rainfall…
Yaochu Yuan, Weibing Guan, Chenghao Yang, Yu-Heng Tseng, Huiqun Wang
Based on direct current measurements from two separated cruises in October 2008-January 2009 and July-August 2009, we obtained a valuable deep current observation of the Luzon Strait (LS). Rectified wavelet power spectra analysis (RWPSA) and the geostrophic c…
Lili Xu, Jiqing Tan, Yanjun Mao, Bomin Chen, Huiyi Fan
The earth-atmosphere system is an energy equilibrium system, including cooling and heating systems. The conception of “atmospheric heat engine (AH Engine)” was put forward very early in the research of heating processes. However, in the field of research on a…
Jieying He, Shengwei Zhang, Na Li
The mesoscale numerical model WRF is used to simulate the No. 8 hurricane Matthew in 2016. The radar and radiometer observations are assimilated by WRF Var. With the verification to the real situation, the process of the hurricane rainstorm is well simulated…

Atmospheric and Climate Sciences (ACS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published quarterly. The journal is dedicated to publishing original research articles across all the fields of applied atmospheric and/or climate science. The journal welcomes contributions in, but not limited to, the following areas: All articles are open access under a CC BY 4.0 licence, with authors retaining copyright.
Authors submit their manuscript, metadata, and declarations through the portal. There is no submission fee.
The editorial office screens the manuscript for scope, completeness, and formatting before assigning a handling editor.
At least two independent reviewers evaluate the manuscript under single-blind review. Where revisions are required, authors respond point by point.
On acceptance the article processing charge is invoiced and the CC BY 4.0 copyright handover is signed.
The article is copyedited, typeset, and given a DOI, then publishes open access with a permanent link.
Manuscripts must be original and not under consideration elsewhere. Submit in Microsoft Word or LaTeX with figures at 300 dpi minimum. Structure research articles as Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and References.
Use the journal's numbered (Vancouver) reference style. Cite sources consecutively in the order they appear, and ensure every reference is complete and retrievable.
Declare all funding sources, conflicts of interest, and ethical approvals (including informed consent and animal-care statements where applicable).
