Particulate reinforced thermoplastic composites are designed to improve the properties and to lower the overall cost of engineering plastics. In this study the effects of adding mica with variable particle size on the mechanical, thermal, electrical and rheol…
Jinjing Luo, A. M. Hein, J.Y. Hwang
Unburned carbon was found to be a component of fly ash resulting from incomplete combustion in a pulverized-coal based power plant. Previous investigations found that unburned carbon separated from fly ash exhibited good mercury adsorption property. It would…

A procedure and specification for evaluating the degree of spheroidization of graphite in spheroidal graphite iron (SGI), using a computer-based image analyzing system has been developed as an aid to structure-property-quality assessment. Both global and feat…
Shangzhao Shi, Jiann-Yang Hwang
Among near net shape approaches, plasma spray deposition has its own advantages. It can perform ultrahigh temperature heating, produce components with layered compositions and structures, and fabricate thin-wall and large diameter objects. In this paper, the…

The emerging Yang jig technology offers sharp separation of fine particles by the difference in their specific gravity. Mixed particles are fed either wet or dry into an inlet near the top of a column that is packed by corrugated plates, and the pulse water e…
Jaebong Jeong, S. Douglas McDowell
Three major source sediments were characterized and classified in terms of mineralogical and chemical composition in the west coastal area of the Keweenaw Peninsula. Bulk chemical analysis reveals that concentrations of Cu, Ag, Co, and As were enriched in met…
Shangzhao Shi, Jiann-Yang Hwang
Previous research has revealed several advantages from microwave-assisted wet chemical synthesis in reaction acceleration, yield improvement, enhanced physicochemical properties and the evolvement of new material phases. The study present examples that demons…
